HOUSTON November 8, 2012 – Robin Young-Ellis was a recipient of the “Heart of Service” Award on Friday, November 2, 2012 at the Houston West Chamber of Commerce Salute to Veterans luncheon held at the Omni Houston Hotel-Westside in Houston.
Young-Ellis received this award for founding Salute to our Troops Houston in 2008. Salute to our Troops Houston is an event dedicated to honoring the brave men and women of the Armed Forces, wounded veterans and their families.
“Robin is most deserving of our Heart of Service Award – a lady and a champion for a cause,” said a spokesperson for Houston West Chamber of Commerce.
In a short three years, through Young-Ellis’ strategic and successful coordination, the event quickly grew from 500 active duty and reserve military troops and their families to 2300 active duty and reserve troops and their families and post 9-11 wounded military heroes. In 2011, by invitation and support of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™, Young-Ellis gave her program to RodeoHouston to help establish their first Armed Forces Appreciation Committee, of which Young-Ellis remains active as the committee chairman.
Co-recipients of this award include: retired Lt. Col. Barry Bridger, U.S. Air Force, and survivor of six years in the Hanoi Hilton prison camp and Kimberly K. Leonard-Holland, retired U.S. Army and retired CSM Larry Holland of Operation Interdependence and Helping a Hero.
