HOUSTON September 28, 2011 – ABC-13, the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and Mercedes-Benz Dealers of Greater Houston names Robin Young-Ellis a 2012 Woman of Distinction. Young-Ellis will be honored at the 2012 “Silver Reflections 25th Winter Ball” on January 28, 2012 for making a difference in the community and her selfless and dedicated volunteerism.

An ABC-13 News photographer and a contingent of friends staged the surprise announcement at the law office of Joe Jamail. Joining the celebration was Crohns & Colitis Foundation board member and Regional Director Charles Weiss, CCFA Winter Ball Chairs Evelyn Leightman and Barbara Scott, former Women of Distinction Carol Sawyer and Julie Brown, client and friend Joe Jamail, husband Joe Ellis, and friends Colonel Mark Campsey, Kimberly Overby, Dr. Tom Sawyer and Vice President and Officer of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ Paul Lehnhoff.

In 2008, Young-Ellis founded Salute To Our Troops Houston, an event dedicated to honoring the brave men and women of the Armed Forces. In a short three years, through Young-Ellis’ strategic and successful coordination, the event quickly grew from 500 active duty and reserve military troops and their families to 2300 active duty and reserve troops and their families and post 9-11 wounded military heroes. In 2011, by invitation and support of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™, Young-Ellis gave the program to the Show to start the Armed Forces Appreciation Committee, of which Young-Ellis remains active as the committee chairman.

Since 1993, Young-Ellis has been an active member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ and sits on their Board of Directors since 2005. Young-Ellis and her husband have been members for eight years in the Silver Spurs Club for their generous contributions to the Texas education and scholarship program.

This culture of giving and safeguarding runs through the heart of Young-Ellis reaching globally to East Africa. During her mission travels with Hope 4 Kids International and Water 4 Kids International in the summer of 2010, Young-Ellis adopted a rural village that supports more than 14,000 villagers. In her recent return to the village this summer of 2011, Young-Ellis was honored in the village dedication and ceremonies for her support in building their church, latrine, 2-room clinic and two water wells. Of her most current projects, Young-Ellis’ has collaborated with the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture for the development of a new school in village. The design of the new school project will be undertaken by graduate architecture students in a vertical design studio under the direction of Professor Michael Garrison.

On a professional level, Young-Ellis founded RobinYoung & Company in 1996. The firm is dedicated to the plaintiff and plaintiff’s family, personal injury attorney and their legal team, offering injury victims a unique brand of personal attention and financial assistance at a critical juncture on their road to recovery. Always passionate about the causes that are important to her, Young-Ellis donates a generous percentage of her annual earnings to the above mentioned and other various health, disability, military and educational organizations.

Whether it is helping people through her career or through her philanthropic and humanitarian efforts, it is clear why Young-Ellis was nominated for an award that recognizes distinguished women for the difference they make in our community. “At the end of the day, the best part is feeling like we’ve made a difference in someone’s life,” said Young-Ellis.
